Top Articles of the Week…

  • Paul Ryan’s Own Constituents Say his Policies Aren’t Working for Them. Ryan voted for the repeal of regulations that played a critical role in causing the great recession, voted for free trade deals that cost Wisconsin over 57,000 jobs, voted against extending unemployment benefits, voted for the $800 million TARP bailout for big banks, voted against the $800 billion economic stimulus bill, refuses federal monies and earmarks to bring jobs to his constituents. Those constituents that lost high-paying jobs in the Ryan-assisted recession that did stay in the area and found work did so by taking on low-paying jobs, with even Ryan’s own hometown turning into a hollowed out shell of it’s former economic high. What little financial assistance received in the area has been from federal grants from the Obama administration. And Ryan’s proposed federal budget would preserve the Bush tax cuts for high-income households and cut taxes for the wealthy and shift more of the tax burden onto middle class families… Do you want to reward this plutocratic turncoat by voting him into being one heartbeat away from controlling the nation?

  • Are you financially better off when the president is a Republican or Democrat?. In an analysis spanning 80 years and 13 presidents– from Herbert Hoover to Gee Wiz Boosh — authors Lew Goldfarb and Bob Deitrick show, in their words, “the GOP theory of Republican economic dominance is no more than a myth. Period.” In other words, Democratic presidents have the best financial track record for our nation.

  • How Mitt Romney Would Quickly Bankrupt Medicare. Should Romney restore the $716 billion — and unless he institutes other yet to be specified reforms — we would move back to the old system of overpaying private insurers and providers. He’d be re-inserting inefficiency back into the system, jeopardizing the benefits that seniors are currently enjoying, and shrinking the solvency of the Medicare trust fund from 2024 under current law to 2016.

The Republlican Art of Shameless Hypocrisy…

  • Ryan and Romney and Taxes and Spending: Hypocrisy-Fest Continues. Meanwhile, under Ryan’s tax proposal, both would of course pay considerably less. Matthew O’Brien of The Atlantic calculated last week that under Ryan’s proposals Romney would have paid not 13.9 percent but .82 percent, or just $177,000 or so on $21 million earned.

  • Republican Stimulus Hypocrisy Should Enrage Every Struggling American. For the past three years, Republicans have been fierce opponents of using government funds to stimulate the economy and create jobs as a matter of course, and they have, without exception, denounced President Obama’s stimulus they claim “doesn’t work, and didn’t work” to create jobs or stimulate the economy. Every time a Republican makes that assertion, they prove themselves to be liars and hypocrites, and John McCain and Paul Ryan provide the evidence to prove it.

  • Paul Ryan’s Top 10 Falsehoods and Outrages……from just his first week on the Campaign Trail. Ryan’s early roll-out for campaign 2012 has been quite the disaster.

  • How Ordinary People Come to Embrace Paul Ryan’s Cruelty. Earlier this year, Democratic operatives looking for the best way to define Mitt Romney discovered something interesting about Paul Ryan’s budget. The New York Times reported that when the details of his proposals were run past focus groups, they found that the plan is so cruel that voters “simply refused to believe any politician would do such a thing.”

The Evils of Republican Social Darwinism…

  • The Conservative Psyche: How Ordinary People Come to Embrace Paul Ryan’s Cruelty.

  • Republicans deliberately crash YOUR economy. The obstructionist GOP has blocked pro-growth policy and backed job-killing austerity — all while blaming Obama in pursuit of their openly stated agenda to make him a one term president… And they have the threat of the “fiscal cliff” recession already in place for 2013 to make your economy even worse…

  • Poorer, gloomier middle-class and the lost decade. The middle class shrank in size since 2000 and fell back in income. The wealth the middle class lost over the decade amounts to a stunning 28 percent decline. “The middle class is completely being wiped out,” said Leslie May, 60, who grew up in the Oakland hills and sent her daughters to private schools but now shares a home with a daughter and granddaughter and struggles to pay the bills.

  • Paul Ryan has a plan for your retirement and it’s not pretty. That puts 49 percent of middle-class workers on track for poverty or near-poverty in retirement, a situation that, as detailed in the graphic, Paul Ryan would make worse.

Lies, Lies, Lies: Repubs LUVS Lies…

  • Romney’s tax plan just doesn’t add up. Voodoo economics, 2012 style….

  • Everything You Need To Know About Romney’s Dishonesty On Medicare. This week, the Romney/Ryan campaign has twisted itself into a pretzel attacking President Obama for “stealing” $716 billion from Medicare, while trying to explain why Paul Ryan included the exact same “savings” in his FY 2013 budget.

  • Truth and Lies About Medicare. Republican attacks on President Obama’s plans for Medicare are growing more heated and inaccurate by the day. Both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan made statements last week implying that the Affordable Care Act would eviscerate Medicare when in fact the law should shore up the program’s finances.

  • Economists: Republican’s so-called jobs bills won’t create jobs. Republicans flash around cards titled ‘Job Creators’ with a list of 32 Republican bills. But there’s a problem with their jobs bills: They don’t create jobs. In interviews conducted with economists, most said the GOP jobs package would have no meaningful impact on job creation in the near term. Some said it was not likely to do much in the long term, either.

The Failure of Republican Policies for the 99%…

  • Things to Know About “One Heartbeat Away” Ryan (and remember, Romney picked this moron). 1. Ryan believes in ending Medicare as we know it. 2. Ryan believes in ending Medicaid as we know it. 3. Ryan believes in privatization of Social Security. 4. Ryan would decimate government funding to the point it could no longer carry on basic operations. 5. Ryan wants the biggest transfer of wealth in history from the poor and middle class to the already wealthy .

  • More things you should know about Ryan — who Romney picked to be “One Heartbeat Away”. 5) Ryan’s budget would result in 4.1 million lost jobs in 2 years. 6) Ryan wants to eliminate Pell Grants for more more than 1 million students. 7) Ryan supports billions in taxpayer subsides for profitable oil companies that pay no taxes. <> 8) Ryan has ownership in companies that benefit from oil subsidies. 9) Ryan claimed Romneycare has led to rationing and benefit cuts. 10) Ryan believes that Romneycare is not that dissimilar to Obamacare.

  • Republican policy of austerity will increase unemployment and plunge economy into deep recession. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office report compares the baseline scenario, in which the Bush tax cuts expire and the fiscal cliff spending cuts take effect, with an alternative scenario, in which the tax cuts are extended and the fiscal cliff deferred. Spending is not only good for the unemployed, but it is the best possible avenue towards reducing the deficit. If policymakers cut programs aimed at low and moderate income Americans, it would move our recovery to a recession.

  • Republican Medicare plan would be a gamble/carry serious risk.. But several previous experiments with privatizing Medicare insurance coverage have ended up raising costs to taxpayers. And on the other side, there is little evidence that moving millions of elderly and disabled patients into commercial health plans will protect their coverage or tame the nation’s skyrocketing healthcare tab.

  • The failure of supply-side tax cuts. “There’s ample evidence that…it was the lack of adequate regulation…that caused our economic downturn.” — OMB Watch. Some 30 years after the Republican Party was concocted supply-side trickle-down economics, they continually blabber to the mantra, even if history hasn’t disproven the deception that tax cuts and deregulation alone will magically lead to a wondrous new era of prosperity. The 99% are still waiting for the benefits to trickle down upon us, instead of the smelly elephant dung…

Skeletons lurking quietly in the Republican closet…

  • 7 Scandals That Reveal the Real Mitt Romney. 1) Bain Capital Launched with Funds Tied to Salvadoran Death Squads. 2) Romney Wants Tax Cuts For the Rich Paid By Higher Middle-Class Taxes. 3) Romney’s Racist Attack on Welfare 4) Romney, the Bad Neighbor: thumbing his nose at his neighbors at a vacation home. 5) Intolerant Then, Intolerant Now. 6) Straight-laced insensitivity. 7) Romney Campaign Takes Money From Olympic Bribery Scandal Figures.

  • Romney and Bain profited from massive Medicare Fraud. From John McCain’s opposition research on Romney came the sordid tale of Mitt’s tenure on the board of Damon Clinical Laboratories, which pled guilty to charges of defrauding Medicare and agreed to pay what was at the time the largest health care criminal fraud fine in history – $35,300,000. They also agreed to larger civil fines which totaled $83,700,000.

  • The Bain Files: Inside Mitt Romney’s Tax-Dodging Cayman Schemes. Today, we are publishing more than 950 pages of internal audits, financial statements, and private investor letters for 21 cryptically named entities in which Romney had invested — at minimum — more than $10 million as of 2011 (that number is based on the low end of ranges he has disclosed — the true number is almost certainly significantly higher). Almost all of them are affiliated with Bain Capital, the secretive private equity firm Romney co-founded in 1984 and ran until his departure in 1999 (or 2002).

The War on Women by Repugnant Republicans…

  • DOCUMENTED PROOF of the Republican War on Women. Conservatives like to pretend there is no war on women, so PoliticusUSA developed a running list of legislation to prove that there is indeed a war on women.

  • The Akin plank: GOP set to approve ‘no exceptions’ anti-abortion platform. Republicans in Tampa are drafting a platform provision that calls for a human life amendment to the Constitution: a ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.

  • Worst Things Republicans Have Said About Rape, Sex and Women’s Bodies . 1) Republican contributions to the “rape doesn’t lead to babies” myth. 2) The National Right to Life Committee’s John C. Willke’s claims in an article that the trauma of rape prevents pregnancy, 3) Want contraception? Put an aspirin between your knees. 4) GOP lawmakers seek to legally redefine rape as “forcible rape” so fewer women will qualify as victims. 5) Another GOP lawmaker worries that women will claim rape just to get abortions. 6) Forced ultrasounds are okay because women already consented to be penetrated when they got pregnant. 7) When women sign up for the military to hang out with aggressive dudes, they are asking to be raped. 8) Let’s not forget our Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee, respectively, think rape victims should make the best of it and see the unwanted child as a gift and sometimes cool people are conceived in rape.

    Republican Global Ruining…

  • 8 REPUBLICAN bills to destroy our national parks, forests, and public lands for development, mining, drilling, and logging. Some places Republicans want to trash: Yosemite National Park, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, Weminuche Wilderness, Maroon-Bells Snowmass Wilderness, Lost Creek Wildernesses, Rocky Mountain National Park, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Glacier National Park, Santa Fe and Gila National Forests, Great Basin National Park, Crater Lake National Park, Mount Hood National Forest, Allegheny National Forest, and Shenandoah National Park, as well as surrounding wilderness areas in all those locations…

  • DRILL-BABY-Romney Energy Plan Would Expand Oil Drilling Offshore AND on Public Lands. Mitt Romney plans to unveil an energy plan that would allow states more control over the development of energy resources on federal lands within their borders, as well as aggressively expand offshore oil and gas drilling – including along the coasts of Virginia and the Carolinas – as part of a broader effort to reach energy independence.

  • Congressional Republicans Unleash Double-Barreled Attack on Health and Environment. Republicans in the House and the Senate today launched a dual attack by promoting extremist legislation that would do nothing to protect public health but instead help special interest allies gain further license to continue polluting our environment. “This bill is a sad attempt to block virtually all manner of health, safety, economic and environmental protections for the foreseeable future, regardless of what we learn from science or experience.”

    Whatever…

  • To make up for the drudgery of draggin you through the elephant dung heap, a little laughter with: Jon Stewart mocks Ann Coulter’s outrage at Romney spokeswoman.

  • A few more laughs at the cost of Republicans and that…that…that Sarah Palin: Jon Stewart mocks Palin over her blindness to spewing divisive vitriol. At about 5:50 into the video, watch as a bird flying in the background looks like a bug flying in one ear and out the other
