  • 9 Things That Show Mitt Romney Is Morally Bankrupt. It’s not that hard to be good to your family and friends. If true morality is evidenced by how one treats strangers, Romney’s reputation as a moral actor should be under water.

  • Guess how many times the House voted for fossil fuels and against clean energy. Without peeking down below, try and guess how many times since January 2011 the U.S. House of Representatives voted against clean energy or in favor of fossil fuels. The correct answer is 223. The House voted 223 times in support of a dirty-energy economy.

  • NOT Forward, BACKWARD: with Mitt Romney 17 of 24 Foreign Policy Advisors Are Bush Neocons. I can’t figure out Mitt Romney, though I think I’m hardly alone in that sentiment. When he’s not trashing the president (his only clear-cut campaign initiative) he spends the rest of the time dallying around issues that deserve serious consideration. He’s inscrutable and you don’t need to look any further than the list of names on his sizeable foreign policy team as evidence.

  • Mitt Romney, American Parasite. His years at Bain represent everything you hate about capitalism.

  • If you want to understand Romney’s plan, look at what Republicans have been doing in Congress. The GOP legislation awaiting Romney’s signature isn’t simply a return to the era of George W. Bush. From abortion rights and gun laws to tax giveaways and energy policy, it’s far worse. Measures that have already sailed through the Republican House would roll back clean-air protections, gut both Medicare and Medicaid, lavish trillions in tax cuts on billionaires while raising taxes on the poor, and slash everything from college aid to veteran benefits. In fact, the tenets of Ryan Republicanism are so extreme that they even offend the pioneers of trickle-down economics. “Ryan takes out the ax and goes after programs for the poor – which is the last thing you ought to cut,” says David Stockman, who served as Ronald Reagan’s budget director. “It’s ideology run amok.”

  • Republican agenda: intentionly sabotage America and blame results on Obama admin. Lax security at the Benghazi consulate was result of Republican cuts.House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.

  • Debunking the bald-faced lies of lyin’ Ryan. American Bridge has released 13 policy-based research briefings detailing how Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan has fabricated or distorted most of what he says…

  • Eric Cantor LIES that he never backed sequestration but FactCheck says he did. During a recent debate for the 7th District House seat, Democrat challenger Wayne Powell accused Republican Rep. Eric Cantor of flip-flopping on $1 trillion in automatic federal spending cuts that are slated to begin on Jan. 2. Yep, FactCheck designoates Cantor as doing a “full flop”…

  • In Big Foreign Policy Speech, Romney Lies to the Entire World. Romney displayed again his proclivity to lie on specifics and distort the broader reality. But this time, the whole world was watching; how embarassing…

The Failure of Republican Policies for the 99%…

  • If Mitt Romney wins, the middle class loses. Romney puts tax breaks for wealthy ahead of investing in education. If Republicans take away early childhood education, slash K-12 funding, and cut college aid for middle class families, they won’t go far. Yet that’s exactly what Mitt Romney wants to do to pay for a $250,000 tax break for each and every multi-millionaire.

  • Mitt Romney’s Delusional Foreign Policy. Indeed, one would be hard-pressed to find a single substantive difference between what Romney is proposing as a candidate and Obama is actually doing as president. Consider, for example, Romney’s discussion of Iran – an area in which he has claimed there are significant contrasts between his views and those of the president.

  • More People Are Riding Amtrak, But Republicans Pledge To Cut Funding. Amtrak, the federally-subsidized passenger rail that runs across the country, experienced a 3.5 percent jump in ridership last fiscal year, with a total of 31.2 million passengers taking the train. But despite the growth in rides the Republican party sees Amtrak as an unprofitable venture, and called in their platform to privatize it entirely, a move that would cut off train service to rural Americans who don’t live on high-frequency train routes. In fact, the National Association of Railroad Passengers believes privatization “would be tantamount to shutting down the entire Amtrak network, because the remaining routes could not cover the system’s overhead costs.”

The Republlican Art of Shameless Hypocrisy…

  • Pro-Life Congressman Pressured Mistress To Get An Abortion. Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) told his mistress to get an abortion for the sake of his marriage, despite his pro-life views, in a conversation obtained by the Huffington Post. Rep. DesJarlais, who supported the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” — a bill that included “forcible rape” language in one of its early drafts — demanded that his lover end her pregnancy, saying, “You told me you’d have an abortion, and now we’re getting too far along without one.” The lawmaker has faced accusations of hypocrisy before; although he voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, he later celebrated the construction of a health clinic in his district funded wholly by Obamacare.

  • Fox News Analyst: Deadly Meningitis Outbreak Demonstrates Need For Less Government Regulation. This demonstrates the conservative Faux Snooz tactic of just say anything. Realize that the lack of regulation is what caused the meningitis outbreak, yet they have the ludicrous audacity to say that less regulations are needed, “deregulation” being their mantra. The lack of oversight is the problem in cases like this. not too much oversight…

  • The Unorthodox Extremism of Mitt’s Education Policy. For the most part, Mitt Romney’s education platform—a move away from Bush and Obama’s federal accountability measures— reflects contemporary GOP orthodoxy. To a lesser degree, he has spoken favorably about Obama’s Race to the Top effort. During Wednesday night’s debate, however, he floated two ed reform ideas that don’t seem broadly popular with anyone.

  • How Republican-backed fracking is a danger to your health. 12 known chemicals associated with fracking have dangerous impacts on health. So many morons, so little time: there has been talk of spinning off just this one subtopic into it’s own report, and even making it a daily report at that, to try to keep up with the stupid Republican destructorama of their life support system (anyone out there interested? we could give you our HTML template, or you could try one of those new automatic “online newspaper” blogs like this one)…

These chemicals include, arsenic, benzene, lead and phenol with symptoms including Leukemia and lymphoma, renal failure, pulmonary damage and the list goes on illuminating the seriousness of the threats to public health. This is just one form of “Republiocide”, where dirty-energy-bribed Republicans “thin the herd” while raking in big bucks from their corporate cronies…

  • Weather disasters target N. America. The number of natural disasters per year has been rising dramatically on all continents since 1980, but most notably in North America where countries have been battered by hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and searing heat and drought. The study being released today by Munich Re, the world’s largest reinsurance firm, sees climate change driving the increase and predicts more disasters ahead. Making the link to climate change will likely add to the debate on global warming, its causes, consequences, and costs, which often fall to insurance firms to cover [which raises the rates of the insured].

  • Why America must transition to a third-party. When it comes to explaining the problems with our economy, one of the hardest things to do is to get people to understand that we are living in an economic fantasy world that is completely and totally unsustainable. As a nation we consume far more than we produce, we spend far more than we bring in, our debt is growing much faster than our GDP is, our entitlement programs are growing at an exponential rate, our retirement system is a Ponzi scheme and the Federal Reserve is printing money as if there is no tomorrow in a desperate attempt to paper over all of our problems.

  • Job Killing For Dummies: Why the GOP is to Blame For the Lack of Jobs. The GOP agenda has never changed in over thirty years, and despite the abject failure of their grand scheme to enrich “job creators” and their corporations, they persist in attempting to convince Americans that the policies that have failed time and time again are the only remedy to save the economy and spur full employment.

  • Income Inequality and the Great Crash of 2008. I’ve mentioned before my rough-and-ready theory of the 2008 financial crisis: Income inequality goes up. As a result, earnings of the middle class become sluggish. And earnings of the rich skyrocket, a trend reinforced by lower tax rates on both labor and capital income. Rich people eventually run out of sensible things to invest all this money in (because consumer demand is sluggish, see #2), so they get stupid. Stupid money finances stupid loans to middle-class borrowers who can’t afford them (because their incomes are sluggish, see #2). This all works great until it doesn’t. When it doesn’t, the bubble bursts and the economy goes kablooey.

  • All you need to know about dirty-energy industry bribery of Republicans in Congress. There is a wealthy of info here. You can check out any congressperson, their connections, how much in dirty energy bribes they rake in, how they vote for dirty energy and against clean energy, and on and on. All you need to know about how greedy, mindless, shameless Republicans are controlled by dirty energy, which is not in the best interest nor well being of you and yours. They get rich, you get sick and die…

  • Dirty Energy Money pouring into Congress faster than ever before. Members of Congress have taken almost $16 million from the oil, gas and coal industries so far in this 112th Congress. That puts this Congress on track to be the dirtiest ever.

  • Vote Counting Company Tied to Romney. Several Tanker trucks full of political ink have been spilled on Mitt Romney’s tenure as a vulture capitalist at Bain Capital. A more important story, however, is the fact that Bain alumni, now raising big money as Romney bundlers are also in the electronic voting machine business. This appears to be a repeat of the the infamous former CEO of Diebold Wally O’Dell, who raised money for Bush while his company supplied voting machines and election management software in the 2004 election.

  • 6 Groups That Have The Most To Lose If President Obama Doesn’t Win. Here are the 6 groups that have the most to lose if President Obama isn’t re-elected. Actually, everybody except the 1% loses, and even they would if Romney were given the reigns to mess up the economy worse than it ever has been…

  • Flashback: Paul Ryan And His Family To Benefit From The $45 Billion In Subsidies For Big Oil In His Budget. “Congressman could indirectly gain from plan to keep oil, gas tax breaks,” reads the headline in today’s print Washington Post. Online, that’s been watered down to “Ryan family companies hold stakes in energy business interests.” Climate Progress reported this story back in June 2011 after Ryan first introduced his radical, self-serving plan. Paul Ryan’s budget, which means austerity for most Americans, turns out to mean prosperity for Ryan and his family.

Lies, Lies, Lies: Repubs LUVS Lies…

  • Romney Has Lied So Much the Media is Calling Mitt Romney A Joke. With Mitt Romney, you have to record by video all that he says, since it changes day to day on many key issues and he has yet to reveal his true plans for: tax cuts, policies on energy, taxing the rich, the war with Iran and especially on healthcare. But Mitt Romney made many, many false statements during the debate that even contradict his previous 20 debates in the primary debates with fellow republicans last year.

  • 10 Most Shameless Romney Debate Lies — Debunked. The verdict is in: Romney’s debate performance was chock full of lies, recalling his running mate’s address to the GOP convention, which was also chock full of lies.

  • At Last Night’s Debate: Romney Told 27 Myths In 38 Minutes. Pundits from both sides of the aisle have lauded Mitt Romney’s strong debate performance, praising his preparedness and ability to challenge President Obama’s policies and accomplishments. But Romney only accomplished this goal by repeatedly misleading viewers. He spoke for 38 minutes of the 90 minute debate and told at least 27 myths.

  • Mitt Romney: Lying to victory. The results of Wednesday night’s first presidential debate are in and it’s official: Mitt Romney won round one. He was aggressive, he was decisive, he delivered. Of course he also lied through his teeth for most of the debate.

  • Mitt Romney Gives Obama All The Lies He Needs to Hang Him With. Mitt Romney’s lie based strategy couldn’t measure up to Obama, and gave the president all the rope he needs to hang the Republican nominee. The first question was about jobs, and Obama framed the question as about the future direction of the country. Romney starts off with an immediate lie that he is not going to cut taxes on the rich, and launched into his stump speech five point plan that provides no details

  • Romney’s Biggest Lie of All: A $5 Trillion Tax Cut For the Rich Will [NOT] Create Jobs. Since it is a fact that giving more tax break entitlements to the wealthy and eliminating regulations does not boost job creation, it is worth looking at what Republicans have done over the past three-and-a-half years to create jobs. The short answer is absolutely nothing and in fact, the GOP is responsible for retarding job growth they began planning on inauguration night 2009. The Republicans have devised a three-point plan they claim will boost employment that has been an abject failure around the world and it is austerity, tax cuts for the rich, and deregulation. One of Romney’s favorite arguments is cutting the size of government through austerity creates jobs, but in May of this year he said taking money out of the federal budget will shrink GDP and “throw us into recession or depression” and indeed, according to Economic Policy Institute estimates, Romney’s tax cut plan will eliminate 2 million jobs if he wins in November.

  • Romney’s Sick Joke. And the fact is that everything Obama said was basically true, while much of what Romney said was either outright false or so misleading as to be the moral equivalent of a lie.

The Failure of Republican Policies for the 99%…

  • America Should Be Livid With The GOP For Their Anti-Jobs Agenda. The American people should be livid that Republicans are unwilling to support the president’s jobs bill. They claim that spending on jobs is dangerous, but they have not yet proved how curtailing spending will help the economy or create one job because they cannot. Republicans have proposed spending cuts that had no effect on job creation, but they did kill millions of Americans’ jobs.

  • Romney has proposed lowering income tax rates, abolishing the estate tax and making other changes that would cost $5 trillion. Here is one way to distill the confusing charges and countercharges of the first presidential debate: President Obama has no adequate plan to cope with the frightening level of debt the U.S. government is accumulating. Republican nominee Mitt Romney has a plan to make it worse. His proposal would only increase the level of U.S. debt.

  • Romney’s Health Care Plan Leads To More Uninsured Americans, Higher Premiums Than Obamacare. A new study from Families USA compares both Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts health reform law and proposed health care plans as a presidential candidate with President Obama’s health care reform. The report finds that on both a national and state-by-state level, Romney’s proposed reforms would lead to a substanitally higher uninsurance rate and considerably less financial support for American families trying to access health coverage than Obamacare would.

  • The Best Reason for You to Ditch Fossil Fuel? Start with the Air You’re Breathing. Cleaning up the air is an issue that starts with your health, not just the planet’s. And never forget that Republicans are hell bent on fouling that air you breathe with more toxic pollutants and dirty energy carcinogens.

  • Charts Reveal Drill, Baby, Drill Fails to Stop High Oil Prices. The “good” news: U.S oil production is at a 10 year high. The inevitable result: No significant impact on oil prices. Now, for Fox News, this means Obama’s policies are to blame. But as we reported back in March, Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal and the Koch-Fueled Cato Institute agree: “It’s Not Obama’s Fault That Crude Oil Prices Have Increased”:

The Republican Defect of Shameless Hypocrisy…

  • Natural Born Job Killers: Republicans Obstruct over 4.2 million jobs. On Inauguration night in 2009, Republican leaders gathered to plot the absolute obstruction of President Obama’s economic agenda and thus far, they have been successful much to the disappointment of millions of Americans who continue to suffer the effects Republican’s goal of retarding economic recovery and job creation. The GOP makes matters worse by decrying the President’s handling of the economy when the truth is that if they had not blocked, obstructed, and stonewalled every one of the President’s plans to improve the jobs and economic picture, the economy would be much closer to achieving a robust recovery.

  • The Great GOP Charade: Corporate Welfare In A Job Creation Disguise. Every time Republicans cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy, they add to the nation’s deficits, and to cover the deficits, they cut spending that creates job losses that lose precious tax revenue.

  • The GOP and Their Job Creators Personify Einstein’s Definition Of Insanity. McConnell said that Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity is, “to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result,” and although McConnell was referring to President Obama’s job creation and stimulus spending plan, he inadvertently described the Republicans’ narrative of cut corporate taxes, eliminate regulations, and cut spending and the deficit.

Skeletons lurking quietly in the Republican closet…

  • Who would promote job growth most in the near term?. Conclusion. President Obama’s budget would do more to spur near-term economic and employment growth than Gov. Romney’s budget plan, regardless of how Romney would finance his second round of tax cuts. Using the specific policy proposals provided by the Romney campaign (which imply deficit-financing of all tax cuts), the Romney budget plan would generate only 3 cents of GDP for every dollar added to the budget deficit in 2013 and would actually reduce GDP by 28 cents for every dollar added to the deficit in 2014.

  • Romney Considering Wall Street CEO For Treasury Secretary Who Wanted $10 Million For Crashing His Company. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Mitt Romney’s potential list of nominees for Treasury Secretary includes John Thain, the former CEO of Wall Street investment bank Merrill Lynch who now heads CIT Group. Thain is perhaps best known for overseeing Merrill Lynch as it fell apart during the 2008 financial crisis, necessitating a rescue by Bank of America, and then paying out bonuses to his failed bankers anyway.

  • 9 Outrageous Things Said By Republicans Running for Office. This year Republicans have repeatedly shown voters their true colors, especially when it comes to policies that affect women and families. Here are just a few of some of their most egregious positions.

  • After 10 Years of Tax Cuts The GOP’s Job Creators Haven’t Delivered Jobs . At last count, the spending cuts Republicans have proposed will cost Americans nearly 2 million jobs making the GOP the job-killing masters. It is really a twisted concept to understand, but for some unknown reason the Republicans have convinced their supporters that the jobs picture and the economy will improve by enacting spending cuts and maintaining the Bush-era tax cuts. Both spending cuts and the wealthy’s tax cuts will never ever result in job creation and it reinforces the notion that Republicans are not the least bit serious about creating jobs or growing the economy.

  • This is how you quickly do the math on the Romney-Ryan tax plan. And so Ryan pretends that the policy is too complicated for the country to understand, when in fact it’s too flawed for him to explain.

  • Republican Coal Bill: Just Another Attack on Public Health Protections. Not satisfied with already being known as the most anti-environmental House of Representatives in history, this week House Republicans are again attempting to gut fundamental health and environmental laws to please polluters — specifically, the coal industry. In a new package of bills, House leadership is taking aim at a staggering array of basic laws that hold polluters accountable and ensure Americans have access to clean air and drinkable water; it fundamentally weakens the Clean Air Act and eviscerates the protections of the Clean Water Act. It will increase disease and deaths of tens of thousands of Americans, not to mention devastating the quality of life in communities across the nation currently struggling to clean up coal pollution. It is nothing short of a reckless assault on public health.

  • More Proof Ending Bush Tax Cuts Helps, Not Hurts, Job Growth. • Romney Endorsed Bonkers Quack Science of ‘Cold Fusion’ as America’s Energy Solution. Romney’s answer to our energy woes “were based on nothing more than experimental errors by scientists in Utah.”

  • The GOP’s ‘War On Coal’ Myth, Brought To You By Millions In Coal Cash. Before the House of Representatives takes a two-month recess, its final votes focuses on a Republican package of pro-coal bills, which dismantle essential water, air, and climate protections. Coal has backed the GOP’s political campaign with heavy spending on TV ads, lobbying and political contributions. Coal and dirty utilities have spent a total $66 million on lobbying since 2011. House Republicans have received $4.4 million in career contributions from the coal industry — nearly 5 times the amount Democratic members received.

  • The Declining Economic Freedom Of The United States. The United States, long considered the standard bearer for economic freedom among large industrial nations, has experienced a remarkable plunge in economic freedom during the past decade. Repeat, “the past decade”, which saw the financial crisis result from Republican deregulation, and the rich getting richer while the 99% has fallen into even more disparate inequality with the Republicans now calling for increased austerity for the 99% and even more tax breaks for their sponsors, the wealthiest 1%…

  • Romney’s class warfare on the 99%. Now, at least, there can be no doubt about who is waging class warfare in this presidential campaign. Mitt Romney would pit the winners against the “victims,” the smug-and-rich against the down-on-their-luck, the wealthy tax avoiders against those too poor to owe income tax.

  • Wall Street Rolling Back Another Key Piece of Financial Reform. Wall Street lobbyists are awesome. I’m beginning to develop a begrudging respect not just for their body of work as a whole, but also for their sense of humor. They always go right to the edge of outrageous, and then wittily take one baby-step beyond it. And they did so again last night, with the passage of a new House bill (HR 2827), which rolls back a portion of Dodd-Frank designed to protect cities and towns from the next disaster.

The Republlican Art of Shameless Hypocrisy…

  • Damning evidence from CBPP lays responsibility for budget deficit on Republicans. Yet the hypocritical obstructionist do-nothing jackasses have the shameless audacity to wrongly blame the president and Democrats for the deficit. It’s the twisted GOP just-say-anything tactic, knowing that some pharmaceutically lobotomized zombies out there will fall for it — and even repeat it…

  • Florida GOP Election Fraud scandal spreads to ten counties. They may be engaging in this activity so as to register Democratic voters with wrong information so that when they show up to vote, they can’t, because their information is inaccurate. Also, I would bet that they are still engaging in the destruction of Democratic voter registrations. The Republicans got into bed with this firm because of its checkered past not in spite of it! The Republican Party has become synonymous with corruption.

  • Romney Linked to Voter Registration Firm Accused of Fraud; GOP Cuts Ties With ‘Shady’ Operation. Strategic Allied Consulting, is the latest creation of Sproul, a longtime, high-level GOP operative whose companies have been accused of destroying Democratic voter registration forms and changing information on them in election after election, in state after state, year after year [so that when those voters show up to vote, they are disallowed]. He was hired for similar operations by Bush/Cheney in ’04, by McCain/Palin in ’08 and by Mitt Romney’s campaign late last year. Reeks of corruption and cheating, but is all too typical…it gave us 8 years of Gee Wiz Boosh and his great recession…

  • Seven Things You Need To Know About The GOP War On Voting. It’s important to remember that the Founders weren’t particularly interested in making voting a right available to all citizens. They knew the vote was so important that they employed the prejudices of their time to restrict to white male property owners. Sometimes it seems that what Republicans admire most about the Founders was the demographics of their electorate.

  • Romney plan would tax Social Security benefits. To pay for additional tax cuts for the wealthy, Romney could require additional taxes on Social Security benefits for middle-class seniors, costing on average $460 more each year. Some seniors would see benefits taxed for the first time…

  • How Mitt Romney Helped Monsanto Take Over the World. Though Mitt Romney has been campaigning for president since 2006, it’s alarming how little is known about critical chapters of his business biography. Nothing spells that out more clearly than his ties to Monsanto, whose dark history features scandals involving PCBs, Agent Orange, bovine growth hormone, NutraSweet, genetically modified (GM) seed, and herbicides, reaching back to the 1970s and ’80s. That’s when Monsanto was the largest consulting client of Romney’s employer, Bain & Company, and when Romney helped move Monsanto from chemical colossus to genetic giant.

  • John Boehner: GOP Won’t Agree To Raise Taxes On Wealthy, Even If Obama Wins Reelection. THIS is why the do-nothing obstructionist tea party misfits must be voted out of congress. If it weren’t for the Republican congress blocking everything positive in the last two years, there would be millions of more jobs, the economy would be stronger, the dangerous disparate financial inequality would be lower, and we would not be facing the “fiscal cliff” that will bring on another recession

  • 23 Nuclear Power Plants at High Risk of Tsunami. Mindless Republicans are gung-ho drill-baby-drillers, and it has been proven that oil and gas drilling causes earthquakes and tsunamis. When you vote, remember to thank Republicans for the potential disaster that could ruin the lives of millions of Americans, including you and yours…

  • Why Capitalism, Not Population Is Our Greatest Environmental Threat. Gluttonous, greedy Republicans are rabid pro-growth capitalists who push the consumerism agenda, which also happens to include their push for populations growth to fuel added consumerism. The greatest threat to our planet is capitalism and more specifically the globalization of capitalism as the singular economic model,,.

  • U.S. House Passes Outrageous Attack on Americans’ Health and Environment. The U.S. House of Representatives passed one of the most sweeping attacks on Americans’ air and water in recent memory. The passage of the bill (H.R. 3409)—which would do everything from allow more pollution in our waterways, to rollback the recently finalized carbon pollution standards for cars and light trucks—adds to this House of Representatives’ record as the most anti-environment House in the history of Congress.

  • It’s not just me that thinks Romney might lose his mind, so does his wife Ann. With wives like these… For a long time now I’ve predicted that Mitt Romney would slowly lose his mind, much like John McCain did in 2008. It’s simply not possible to tell so many lies and to take so many conflicting positions to appease so many disparate groups and not go bonkers. The cracks have been appearing for a while now but his freakout during the recent attacks on American embassies in Libya and Egypt really revealed a meltdown process in full progress. It’s not like it was a particularly astonishing act of prognostication, of course. What I didn’t predict, however, is that the person closest to Mitt Romney would publicly express the same concern herself. But, this week, Ann Romney did just that.

  • 10 Desperate and Depressed Conservative Reactions to Romney’s 47 Percent Moment. Some are standing by Romney, the few semi-smart ones are running away like he’s carrying Ebola: “Mitt who?”… Team Romney’s biggest problem continues to be Mitt Romney. It’s tough to build a campaign around a cartoonish 1-percenter whose CPU doesn’t appear to be programmed for human empathy and who lacks an effective filter between brain and lips.

  • Keep Wall Street Out of Our Waterways. For the investment banking industry, water-related death, drought and degradation aren’t calamities; they’re profit opportunities. “If you play it right,” says one hedge-fund adviser, “the results of this impending water crisis can be very good.”

  • “Who Votes Dirty” site Exposes Dirty Bird Legislators Voting for Dirty Energy, Dirty Air, Dirty Water, Dirty Money, Dirty Everything. One way to determine the legislators who vote against the best interests of you and yours. Another way is to look for that telltale ‘R’ behind their names. For me, I can spot them on site just by their mean white guy or crazy white bitch or traitorous Uncle Tom looks…

  • Fact-Checked: Romney’s ’47%’ Of Non-Taxpaying Americans From Red States. The man born with a silver foot in his mouth has once again found himself amid a Rick Perry “oops” moment of PR despair following some reportedly “off the cuff” remarks he made in a video in what appeared to be a speech to his base (corporate welfare queens). The remarks that the Obama campaign are now seizing on with absolute glee involved Romney telling a group of equally entitled rich pricks that “47 percent of the country doesn’t pay taxes.”

  • Highlights You Missed From the Secret Romney Video. By now you’ve probably heard about the secret video exposing a bunch of real talk from Mitt Romney as he dined with rich Republican donors. But the hour-plus footage, which left the Romney campaign reeling and provoked a full-blown eruption of “chaos on Bullshit Mountain”, is a real embarrassment of riches, as it were. Here are some telling moments that you may not have seen yet from Romney’s unvarnished Q&A behind closed doors: Mocking immigration in the United States; Falsely claiming that the Fed is buying “three-quarters” of America’s debt; Predicting easy dividends from his anticipated victory on November 6; Cracking jokes about Latino voters and Elizabeth Warren; Making enemies on the late-night talk show circuit; Joking about media strategy and his reputation as a “rich, rich guy”; On the 47 percent of Americans he regards as moochers; On the “almost unthinkable prospects” for Mideast peace.

  • Yet Another Republican Conspiracy Theory Bites the Dust: “Fast and Furious” Exonerated. A Fortune mag investigation reveals that the ATF never intentionally allowed guns to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. How the world came to believe just the opposite is a tale of rivalry, murder, and political bloodlust.

Lies, Lies, Lies: Repubs LUVS Lies…

  • Yet another “study” proving tax cuts for the rich do NOT work. Why do they keep doing more studies on the bogus fallacy of trickle down economics when it has been proven over and over that funneling more wealth up to the already wealthy only gives the wealthy more trillions to hoard in their offshore tax-evading banks? All you have to do is simply ponder that the Clinton admin raised taxes and the economy grew and the deficit was eradicated, and compare the ensuing Gee Wiz Booosh tax cut giveaways to the wealthy led to trillion dollar deficits and the current recession we have been working to dig out of. Yet, Republicans are campaigning on the blatant lie that even deeper tax cuts for the wealthy are in order, but that we need to raise taxes on the financially pillaged middle class, further pummeling the spending engine of the American economy. Sheer utter madness from sinister assholes…

  • Republican Monkey See Republican Monkey Do: This Is What A ‘Post-Truth’ Campaign Looks Like. I’m-right-they’re-wrong Paul Ryan copycat: “I don’t care what Fact Check says,” as if that were a perfectly normal phrase to expect from a sitting Congressman. To be fair, the only people who disagree with Rep. Peter King on this one are those hacks over at The Washington Post, FactCheck.org, and PolitiFact.

  • Siemens Lays Off Wind Workers, Citing Expiring Tax Credit Romney Wants To Kill. Get ready to “face palm”: and Romney Campaign Blames Obama

  • The Big, Fat Lie Behind Romney’s Absurd 47% Argument. Mitt Romney’s narrative — long-popular among wrong-wing bloggers and talk-radio squawkers — that 47 percent of households pay no federal income taxes and 53 percent do is the least honest, least factual talking point to ever be taken seriously in our political discourse for a number of reasons. First and foremost among them is this: it’s just not true.

The Failure of Republican Policies for the 99%…

  • Republicans Want Grad Students to Starve. The House hearing was not really about protecting private universities’ “freedom of speech” or keeping costs down for students as higher-education officials have been claiming. The hearing was politically motivated. As Citizen Vox says, the NLRB is not (as House Republicans claim) trampling on the “sacred ground” of private universities and colleges but carrying out its mission, “to protect the rights of employees and employer” — and, I would add, of students and those who teach them in our colleges and universities.

  • Why Taxing The 47 Percent Would Put Millions Into Poverty. Mitt Romney and Tim Kaine aren’t the only politicians who have a problem with poor and middle class people paying no income tax. In April, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor worried “[O]ver 45 percent of the people in this country don’t pay income taxes at all, and we have to question whether that’s fair. Part of the problem is today, only 53% pay any federal income tax at all; 47% pay nothing,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) last July, ahead of her presidential primary candidacy. “We need to broaden the base so that everybody pays something…”

  • House GOP Votes to Transfer Tens of Thousands of Acres of Minnesota PUBLIC LANDS for MINING. [Last week] the House of Representatives voted 225-189 to pass a bill authorizing a controversial land transfer that would almost certainly result in the mining of public lands in Minnesota’s Superior National Forest. These lands have numerous other values like hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and recreation.

  • New Atmospheric Compound Impacts Climate, Human Health. For all we know about climate change and the Earth’s atmosphere, it’s amazing how much more there is to learn. Earlier this month, a team of researchers led by University of Colorado’s Roy “Lee” Mauldin III announced the discovery of a brand new atmospheric compound tied to both climate change and human health.

  • Who Doesn’t the Tea Party Hate? Now It’s Military Families. Republicans’ hostility toward military families continues. It’s not enough that they warmonger without acknowledging the real lives that hang in the balance. Now they are targeting the children of those in service as well.

  • Romney demands that seniors take personal responsibility. Romney’s message is that in order to lower taxes [even more] for his wealthy friends he will demand that retirees who worked hard, played by the rules, saved for retirement and counted on the promise of Social Security and Medicare, take personal responsibility and pay higher taxes, receive less in Social Security and trade in the promise of Medicare for Ryan’s Vouchercare, ending Medicare as we know it.

  • Texan Lynches Invisible Obama. Burnt Orange Report published a picture of a chair hanging from a tree in front of a house in Austin, Texas. In a dark twist on Clint Eastwood’s empty chair meme, it appears the resident, Bud Johnson, lynched the chair as an effigy of President Obama. When asked about the unnerving racist display, Johnson, a Republican, responded, “I don’t really give a damn whether it disturbs you or not. You can take [your concerns] and go straight to hell and take Obama with you. I don’t give a shit. If you don’t like it, don’t come down my street.” Another chair was lynched last week in Virginia.

  • Why WOULDN’T Romney Roll Back New MPG Standards! Dumping Obama’s 54.5 mpg fuel efficiency rules is far easier said than done. The only way is to effectively disband the EPA [which Republicans have also vowed to do]. Mitt Romney has come out strongly against the Obama administration’s newest fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks–rules his campaign calls extreme. The Republican presidential nominee says that if he takes office next year, he’ll consider [sic] rolling back the fuel standards…

  • House Republicans Push Bills This Week To Dismantle Environmental Laws. The GOP combines a number of measures that have already passed the House to curtail policies that Republicans contend will thwart coal-mining and coal-fired power generation. It would nix the Environmental Protection Agency’s power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and take aim at other air pollution rules; restrict planned EPA rules governing management and disposal of coal ash, a waste product from coal plants; and restrict potential Interior Department rules on coal-mining wastes; among other provisions.

  • Republicans Campaign Against War on Coal. House Republicans are set to play a familiar theme this week before heading out to campaign for the November election, trying to head off rules from the Environmental Protection Agency to curb pollution.

  • “In the same way there is no safe number of cigarettes a person can smoke, there is no safe level of air pollution a person can bring breathe”. Ignoring the reality that Americans are tired of costly, counterproductive wars, driven by disinformation and deceit, the GOP has launched war on the EPA. To attack the EPA as “job killing” is as much a con game as was attacking Iraq for non-existent weapons of mass destruction. Justifying themselves as wanting to eliminate regulations of “mass job destruction”, this year the Republican controlled House has passed 168 measures that would weaken or gut core provisions of the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.

  • Fracking: Boom or Doom [there are FIVE pages to the article]. America’s hydraulic fracturing gold rush portends the greatest [um, shouldn’t that be WORST!?!] environmental disaster of a generation.

  • Obama vs. Romney: A Stark Contrast on the Environment. As the U.S. presidential campaign enters its final phase, Yale Environment 360 compares the sharply divergent views of President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney on the environment and energy.

  • Offshore Wind On The Atlantic Cost Could Create 300,000 Jobs And $200 Billion In Economic Activity. America has some of the best offshore wind resources in the world — especially along the Atlantic coastline. But while the promise is massive, zero turbines are currently spinning in U.S. waters. And dirty energy industry’s paid puppet Republicans are out to see that it stays that way, they are out to kill the move towards renewable clean energy…

  • The Social Cost of Carbon: How to Do the Math. [A] new paper published in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences concludes that the costs of carbon pollution and related climate change are vastly greater — possibly two to 12 times as much. The problem, the authors argue, is that the federal government is not adequately taking into account the impacts of climate change on future generations.

Please join us in calling on the PBS ombudsman to immediately investigate how this segment came to be aired and recommend corrective action to make sure a journalistic abomination like this never happens again.

  • Chemical BPA Linked to Obesity in Children. Republican deregulation of chemicals results in the chemical BPA in food, plastic products, and now on cash register receipts. BPA is now linked to obesity in children, making them sluggish, turning them into dumber lemmings to believe GOP lies and vote for them, not to mention feed the vulture capitalist corporate profits for big food and big med to treat the illnesses and disease from obesity… A new study indicates that white children exposed to high levels of bisphenol A are five times more likely to be obese than children with low levels.

  • On Environment: How Would Jesus Vote? Rick Santorum expressed his view: “We were put on this Earth as creatures of God to have dominion over the Earth… for our benefit not for the Earth’s benefit.” The typical Republican evangelical vulture capitalist, just go ahead and mindlessly destroy the environment…

  • New Study Finds High-Income Tax Cuts Don’t Stimulate Economic Growth. A new study??? How many times do they have to prove that supply side trickle down economics was a bogus farce? Simply look at the Clinton years and the Gee Wiz Booosh years and you can see very clearly what a blatanly obvious lie it is to funnel the wealth up to the already wealthy into their offshore accounts where it won’t be taxed, while taking that wealth away from the middle class spending engine that drives the economy

  • Confessions of a Former Republican. I used to be a serious Republican, moderate and business-oriented, who planned for a public-service career in Republican politics. But I am a Republican no longer. I always imagined that I was full of heart, but it turned out that I was oblivious. Like so many Republicans, I had assumed that society’s losers had somehow earned their desserts [social Darwinism]. As I came to recognize that poverty is not earned or chosen or deserved, and that our use of force is far less precise than I had believed, I realized with a shock that I had effectively viewed whole swaths of the country and the world as second-class people.

Must be Romney campaign trying to downplay his serial lie-fest… And what about Ryan? He’s got to be the record holder. • Prioritizing Deficit Reduction Over Important Investments Is Completely Misguided In This Economy. Making debt and deficit reduction our nation’s top priority while the economy is still recovering from the Great Recession is a completely misguided strategy for growth, University of Michigan economist Betsey Stevenson said Wednesday. Instead of pursuing deficit reduction, policymakers should be taking advantage of historically low borrowing costs to make investments into strategic investments into education, infrastructure, and other areas,.. But, Republicans wouldn’t want any positive effects on the economy right now, and private-jetters don’t need to be concerned about infrastructure, and “higher education is just for liberal snobs”.

The do-nothing obstructionist Republican congress wastes time on their pet ‘No More Solyndras Act’ which they know won’t pass the Senate, all as a political move heading toward the election… Shouldn’t that backfire against them, that they are doing something in a partisan political agenda that will do nothing beneficial for the country…

The Evils of Republican Social Darwinism…

  • Middle class sinks to all-time low in 2011. Financial inequality is at an all time high, even worse than the disparity before the depression, which was triggered by that same financial inequality. All nations that have ever mindlessly dared to enter into such disparity met their downfall because of it, yet Republicans continue to push for more tax cuts for the wealthy while encumbering the middle class with increased taxes…

  • Speaking at Values Voter Summit, Paul Ryan Gives Stamp of Approval to Bigotry. People For the American Way today challenged the Romney campaign for its decision to send vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan to speak today at the Values Voter Summit, an event organized by groups that regularly push false and demeaning smears about gays and lesbians, Muslim-Americans and others. These groups also push extreme anti-woman policies, including defending Todd Akin after his “legitimate rape” comments. By speaking at the Values Voter Summit, Paul Ryan sends a clear message: a Romney-Ryan administration has decided to embrace the entrenched bigotry advocated by the farthest of the far right [wrong-wing-wackos]…

  • Mitt Romney Has Consistently Supported The Privatization Of Social Security. On page 160 of his book, No Apology, published in 2010, Romney again hinted at support for privatization: “Individual retirement accounts offer a fourth option, one that would allow today’s wage earners to direct a portion of their Social Security tax to a private account rather than go entirely to pay the benefits of current retirees.”

  • GOP pushes bill to quash EPA’s international climate efforts. An Environmental Protection Agency official said during a Tuesday hearing that a House Republican-sponsored bill would “cripple” the agency’s ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This concern failed to change the Republicans’ minds.

  • Paul Ryan Falls Apart When Asked How Romney Will Pay for Tax Cuts for the Rich. Paul Ryan fell apart Sunday on ‘This Week’ when George Stephanopoulos asked the deer in headlights vice presidential nominee how Mitt Romney will pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts for the rich. Ryan’s answer on how he and Romney would pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy was trust us.

    Republican Global Ruining…

  • Republican Meterologist To Romney: Top 10 Reasons The GOP Needs To Accept The Climate Reality. But denying climate change won’t help any American family or our fledgling economy. And looking at the world with carbon-colored glasses, or using Solyndra as an excuse to snub renewables and clean-tech, is not only short-sighted, but makes America less competitive on the world stage. According to the World Economic Forum, America’s global competitiveness fell from 1st to 7th place since 2007. Should we just accept that most breakthrough energy technologies are originating in China and Europe, where there is no more “debate” about climate trends? Why is America [actually, it’s just REPUBLICAN Americans DENYING global warming to get BRIBES from the DIRTY ENERGY industries] still questioning the science?

  • International Drilling Trade Group Calls Romney’s Plan To Turn Over Federal Lands To States Populist Raw Meat. Mitt Romney’s energy plan is devoted almost exclusively to increasing consumption of fossil fuels — completely ignoring dire warnings from scientists and energy experts that the “door is closing” on our ability to avoid irreversible, catastrophic climate change. Along with the environmental limitations of continuing our reliance on carbon-based resources, the Romney energy plan falsely claims the U.S. can become energy independent and lower prices simply through increased production of fossil fuels — an impossible goal in a global market. Calling such goals a pipe dream, Michael Levi, a leading energy expert with the Council on Foreign Relations said, “the Romney plan overpromises on results while ignoring many of the biggest energy problems the U.S. faces.”

  • Gov. Romney And Rep. Paul Ryan Want To Drill, Slash, And Sell Our Public Lands. Mitt Romney told The Reno Gazette-Journal earlier this year that he doesn’t know “the purpose of ” public lands. Presidents since Theodore Roosevelt have realized the many purposes of public lands. They support our nation’s energy sector, provide clean air and clean water, and serve a critical role in preserving our heritage as a nation. Protecting parks, monuments, and other wilderness areas stimulates hundreds of thousands of jobs from recreation and tourism alone. Yet Romney apparently thinks our 700 million acres of federal public lands serve no obvious purpose… We examined the plans of the two [Republican] candidates alongside their previous votes and policy positions, discovering that, for them, the purpose of public lands is: More access for oil and gas drilling and less investment in cleaner alternative energy sources; The sale of public lands rather than further conservation for future enjoyment and job creation; Less public access to public lands due to ill-considered budget cuts rather than investments in our parks and wilderness areas to boost local economies and jobs. In short, the public lands policies of Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan would be disastrous for the 700 million acres of federal public lands that belong to all of us.

Our dozen proposals to Make Congress Work! mostly don’t require new laws or new spending, and they don’t favor any party or particular cause. These are simple, straightforward proposals to break gridlock, promote constructive discussion and reduce polarization in Congress. They can mostly be adopted all at once when the next Congress convenes in January 2013.

  • Austerity Hawks press for 1920’s inequality that triggered depression. There’s two stories. One is about a battle between or within elites, which is important in the 1930s. But there’s a more serious battle, which is between the elites together and the middle class and the working people in the United States. And it’s all relevant to this whole idea about the battles over austerity and the deficit.

  • Republicans and the Debt. They built it. They own it. They want to make it worse. Don’t be fooled by the two giant U.S. National Debt clocks at the Republican convention. The clocks were as disingenuous as the crazed Right-wings attack dogs…

  • Paul Ryan Quietly Requested Obamacare Cash. In public, Ryan has cultivated a profile as one of health reform’s most outspoken critics. He savages the Affordable Care Act as an example of “Washington’s reckless spending spree,” as “irresponsible,” and has warned repeatedly that it would place the “federal government squarely in the middle of health-care decisions.” On December 10, 2010, Ryan penned a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services to recommend a grant application for the Kenosha Community Health Center, Inc to develop a new facility in Racine, Wisconsin, an area within Ryan’s district…

The Evils of Republican Social Darwinism, Racism, and Creationschism…

  • Reasons We Need to Protect America from Texas Politicians. It looks like the influence of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the right-wing nutcase-creation machine might have tipped Texas Republicans over the edge and into dangerous territory. Their politicians are flying right off the rails. Is it time to think about setting up border checkpoints around Texas to protect ourselves? Even better, maybe we should just build a big fence around the state to keep their elected officials in.

  • The GOP’s Disgusting New Southern Strategy: Take the Vote Away from Blacks, Roll Back the Civil Rights Movement. The GOP’s war on voting rights isn’t new. It harks back to past efforts to alter the political process.

  • Going Undercover at the GOP’s Voter Vigilante Project to Disrupt the November Election. The Republican True the Vote project is a well-funded scheme with training sessions for activists across the country. True the Vote is a voting vigilante group that never should have grown past its Texas cowboy-meets-Tea Party justice roots. Its top leaders have a jaunty, string ‘em up, guilty-until-proven-innocent mindset. They represent the most extreme views on the Right when it comes to voting

  • Five Things You Should Know About Solyndra During The 2012 Campaign. If you’ve been paying attention to the issue over the last year, you’ve likely heard the name “Solyndra” so many times it makes you nauseous. If you’re wondering what the GOP claims on Solyndra are all about, here are some facts to put the issue in context.

  • Mainstream News is Censored Propaganda. Important article from the NY Times demonstrating how real journalism covering the criminal political elite in America is basically dead. Even better, is Glenn Greenwald’s article at Salon slamming the complete joke that is the mainstream media. If it isn’t outright lies, it’s smokescreens, downplaying, or deceptions by omission…

The Failure of Republican Policies for the 99%…

  • A visual on how employment plummeted under Bush and recovered under Obama.

  • The American Jobs Act that Republicans killed last year. Independent analysis projected the American Jobs Act, which was fully paid for, could create as many as 2 million jobs in 2012. But it didn’t because the desire of obstructionist Republicans was to keep the economy in recession to make Obama look bad… NO JOBS FOR YOU!

  • Some conservatives doing about-face on financial deregulation. Republicans repeatedly claim government regulation is to blame for our economic problems. But one Republican with solid conservative credentials says GOP policies are wrong. “I was an advocate of the deregulation movement and I made … a fundamental mistake, which is that deregulation works fine in industries which do not pervade the economy in their consequences. The financial industry undergirds the entire economy and if it is made riskier by deregulation and collapses and causes widespread bankruptcies the entire economy freezes,”

  • Hoarding: The Economic Policy of #lyinRyan conservatives. Paul Ryan is a devout follower of two things: The Catholic faith, and Supply-Side economics. His belief in that economic theory puts him at odds with his own religion when it comes to taking care of the poor and indigent, but regardless of that self-contradiction, Ryan’s stated economic goals fall right in line with other fellow Supply-Siders…. But what thirty or more years of this economic theory has wrought is anything but prosperity from the top-down.

  • GOP plans for health care would hurt the elderly, poor. The Republican Party’s economic plan purports to save Medicare and Medicaid, create millions of jobs through tax cuts and deregulation and remove loopholes in the tax code. Unfortunately, not one of these claims is valid.

  • Biggest Loser: Eric Cantor. Bob Woodward’s new book, The Price of Politics, is one of the first history books about last summer’s debt crisis and how close the world came to being sent into financial chaos. One person has to to come out looking worse for wear, and it seems to be Eric Cantor.

Skeletons lurking quietly in the Republican closet…

  • Way To Go, GOP! Keep Those Teen Pregnancies Coming. In other words, Republicans want to ensure that our students don’t learn about safe sex practices, because if they learn that stuff, they will take it as a go-ahead to have sex morning, noon and night. No, no, no. The only thing kids need to know about sex is that they shouldn’t have it.

  • GOP Platform Declares Medicaid Unconstitutional. Republican politicians seized upon a distorted vision of the Constitution’s Tenth Amendment that would leave America nearly incapable of governing itself…top Republicans have claimed that everything from Social Security to Medicare to federal disaster relief to national child labor laws all violate the Constitution. A similarly erroneous vision of the Constitution has now infected the GOP’s party platform.

The War on Women by Repugnant Republicans…

  • Way To Go, GOP! Keep Those Teen Pregnancies Coming. Republicans want to ensure that our students don’t learn about safe sex practices, because if they learn that stuff, they will take it as a go-ahead to have sex morning, noon and night. No, no, no. The only thing kids need to know about sex is that they shouldn’t have it. And how is that working out for us?

  • What a Republican Future Would Mean for Women’s Health. Last week at the 2012 Republican National Convention, the party made its official stance on women’s health perfectly clear: Outlawing abortion is much more important than protecting a woman’s fundamental right to quality, affordable health care, her ability to have a safe pregnancy, and her access to family planning.

  • RandPaul2016 and his radical “New Israel” concept. Rand Paul is running for president in 2016 and is said to have radical plans such as the “New Israel” concept. His idea is to give up on the expensive middle east conflict and relocate all Israeli citizens to the American west giving them public lands as their own separate independent domain as a Commonwealth of the United States. Not a bad idea actually, but unlikely Israeli’s would go along with it, although it is said that Rand Paul would give them no option and would end all U.S. support of Israel in the middle east by 2020…

  • Claiming The Clean Energy Future: A Seven-Point Action Plan For Repowering America. Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last week ought to serve as an urgent wake-up call to anyone that cares about America’s energy, environmental, and economic future. At the podium, Romney chided President Obama on global warming, and his hoped-for GOP administration is advancing an “energy independence” plan built much more on the polluting industries of the past than the innovative clean technologies of the present and future.

  • We Need a Stronger Word Than ‘Lies’ for What the Republicans Were Spewing Last Night. ‘Lies’ is too weak a word for some of the things Ryan said. We need a stronger word to describe the ability to look you in the eye and argue the exact opposite of your most deeply held beliefs, and do so in such a sincere-seeming way that it’s not even clear he actually grasps his own dishonesty.

  • Amazing Stats Which Prove The Rich Are Getting Richer And The Poor Are Getting Poorer. In the United States today, there is one group of people that is actually living the American Dream. The ultra-wealthy have seen their incomes absolutely explode over the past three decades. Meanwhile, the U.S. middle class has been steadily declining and the ranks of the poor have been swelling. And, Republicans want to raise taxes of the middle class and lower them for the already wealthy

  • Republican Convention Recap: As Experts Warn ‘The Door Is Closing’ On Climate Change, Romney Mocks The Problem. This week’s convention gave the national Republican party a chance to share its views with America. It’s now abundantly clear where the party stands on the most pressing issue of our time: climate change and renewable energy are something to be mocked, not seriously addressed.

The Evils of Republican Social Darwinism…

  • On the Road to Ryan and Ruin. In the 132 years between 1797 and 1929, there was no effective regulation of the economy. No federal agencies existed to control corruption, fraud and exploitation on the part of the business class. As a result the country experienced 33 major economic downturns which impacted roughly 60 of the years in question. These included 22 recessions, 4 depressions, and 7 economic “panics” (bank runs and failures).

  • Lyin’ Ryan: The Media Push Back. When Faux Snooz criticizes LyinRyan, you know it reeks… This diary is a collection of all the media push back (so far) that Paul Ryan has received [from his RNC lie-fest]. I intend to tweet, Facebook and email this list far and wide. Please feel free to add to the list as I will update this diary periodically.

  • Fact Check Video on Lyin Ryan Speech. The Obama campaign released a video early Thursday morning splicing parts of Rep. Paul Ryan’s convention speech with talking heads fact-checking the claims, including comments on Medicare, the stimulus, a GM plant in Wisconsin and the Bowles-Simpson debt commission.

  • Top Ten REPEATED Paul Ryan Lies: You are getting sleeeeepy. This year’s Republican campaign is the most dishonest in history. A couple of weeks ago I listed 10 major falsehoods and gaffes of Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan. He repeated several of them in his Tampa speech, and added a few more. In honest political debate, when a candidate says something that is not true, he is confronted by journalists and the public, and either gives evidence that it is true, or backs off. Ryan continues to insist on repeating known falsehoods, to the extent that even Fox Cable News lamented his dishonesty….

  • The Climate Breakdown Is Right Here, Right Now. There are no comparisons to be made. This is not like war or plague or a stockmarket crash. What we are seeing, here and now, is the transformation of the atmospheric physics of this planet.

  • Paul Ryan’s Grim Vision for America. Let this sink in. This is Paul Ryan’s vision for America. This is what Ryan means by “protecting the weak.” This is the core of Ryan’s tough choices: He wants to cut taxes on the wealthy and cut spending on the poor. In fact, for all practical purposes he’d like to see most spending on the poor go away completely.

  • Racing toward the fiscal cliff: Time running out to avert economic disaster. If Congress takes no action to stave off tax increases and automatic budget cuts scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, the CBO declared, the economy could plunge into a recession. Reading between the lines, it’s clear that the CBO believes there’s no “could” about it — bet on a recession and all its accompanying miseries if Congress doesn’t take action to stop the upcoming disaster.
